Chief Instructor - Capoeira
Sensei Jamie Ellerbe
began his martial arts training in August 1980. He has spent more than 25 years studying the martial arts, and over the years, has received several honors. In 1997, Sensei Ellerbe was honored with a Menkyo Kaiden license from Nagano Shigazato Iyo. It was at that time Sensei Ellerbe began teaching & working with the World Martial Arts Federation. He began to teach Jujutsu seminars, rape prevention workshops, and defensive tactics courses for law enforcement. In 2001, Sensei Ellerbe received two Black Belt Hall of Fame inductions for Master Instructor of the Year Award. In 2007, he received the Grand Master of the Year Award from the Eastern United States International Martial Arts Association.
Sensei Ellerbe began his Capoeira journey in 1996, while he was a student at North Carolina A&T State University. At the university, he met Dr. William Martin, who was at the time, a student of Mestre Nego Gato. Dr. Martin founded the first and only student martial arts organization on campus for Capoeira and Jujutsu. It was under Dr. Martin's training that Sensei Ellerbe studied Mestre Nego Gato. Therefore, he asked him if he could join his group. In 1998, Sensei Ellerbe was honored to meet the founder of Mestre Nego Gato, Mestre Nego Gato, himself. He also met Contra-Mestre Jo who, in 2002, accepted him as her student. After many years of training, Sensei Ellerbe currently teaches and trains student in Capoeira Reginal, and Angola as an Estagiario in Equipe Jo Capoeira at Kazoku Martial Arts.
