Assistant Instructor - Shotokan Karate
Sempai Darryl Artis Sempai Darryl Artis is currently 19 years old. At an early age, he began training in martial arts because his friends were doing it and his parents wanted him to lose weight. However, as his friends stopped training, he continued because he realized that he really enjoyed martial arts training. After about 8 years of training, he received his first-degree black belt in Japanese Shotokan Karate.
Sempai Artis said that being at Kazoku helped him, not only physically, but it has also taught him many life skills. For example, being homeschooled he had a very limited social life; but his training at Kazoku helped him to interact with other people. It has also helped him to assist customers as they call or come in to inquire about the school. He has learned many teaching/leadership skills. He works with the After-School Program, Summer Camp Program, and evening programs. He has begun to study some of the other arts Kazoku offers, such as Sanuces Jiu-Jitsu and Aikido.
