Shotokan Karate

In the Karate program, we practice the traditional "katas" or forms of Japanese Shotokan Karate with an emphasis on their self-defense applications. We also teach practical self-defense techniques for modern day situations. We instill in our students that karate is more than blocking, punching, and kicking; it is also about learning to perfect ones character. We create a positive learning environment where the students are taught the traditional values from karate, such as confidence, respect, discipline, and humility. We believe these are values that students should carry over to their every day life situations.

Sanuces Ryu Jiu-Jitsu

Sanuces is based upon the simplicity of survival. It utilizes practical street applications. It embodies the powerfulness of Karate, the agility of boxing, the speed of Arnis stick fighting and joint locking and nerve attacks of Jiu-Jitsu.

Dr. Moses Powell, a tenth-degree black belt, is the founder of Sanuces Ryu. He has over 45 years of martial arts experience. Dr. Powell was the first martial artist invited to perform at the United Nations. He was also one of the first African-Americans to teach U.S. law enforcement agencies.

Aikido

"The way of harmonizing with the spirit of the universe"

Aikido is the most recent and fastest growing of the major martial arts. Descended from the Japanese samurai tradition, it is a radical reformulation of that tradition, seeking not only victory over others in battle but reconciliation, harmony, and, in its founder's words, "the loving protection of all beings."

This art of peace was developed in the 20th century by Master Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969).  Master Ueshiba spent many years studying the Japanese arts of sword, spear, staff, and Daito-ryu jujutsu, which later became the foundations of aikido movements. Ueshiba was deeply concerned with matters of the spirit.  "True martial art," he said, "is a work of love. . . . Love is the guardian deity of everything. Aikido is the realization of love."  For founding and developing aikido, Morihei Ueshiba received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Japan's most highly esteemed award.

As a martial art, aikido aims at neutralizing an attacker's energy rather than inflicting harm. Typically, the aikidoist moves toward the attacker and slightly off the line of attack, turning so as to blend, become one with, the attacker's energy. From this position, many outcomes are possible.  The aggressor can be thrown to the ground or held in a neutralizing joint-lock. The aikidoist is taught to use minimum force and always to seek reconciliation. When properly used, aikido is an exemplary self-defense form, and the masters of the art are among the finest martial artists in the world.

Aikido is much more than a physical art. It is a way of life that teaches the mind-body-spirit principles of grounding, centering, relaxing, blending, timing, intuition, and positive ki flow. New students can soon experience aikido informing almost every aspect of their lives. Sincerely and patiently practicing the art can result in increased physical, mental, and emotional balance, alertness, and calmness, as well as greater harmony with self, others, and the natural world.

Aiki Jujutsu

Aiki Jujutsu, "The Gentle of Art of Harmony" was founded nearly a thousand years ago and taught only to the feudal lords, high ranking samurai, and ladies in feudal Japan. With a very rich culture and highly detailed techniques, Aiki Jujutsu proved itself worthy of becoming one of the most challenging yet effective martial traditions of Japan.

Today, there are several styles of Aiki Jujutsu still in existence. They range from Classical to Contemporary. Here at Kazoku, we teach a contemporary form of Aiki Jujutsu. Beginners are introduced to basic rolling, falling, proper body alignment, & entering movements. On an advanced level, students will be introduced to the more intricate joint locks, controls, and throwing techniques of the art. Advanced training will also include swordsmanship.

After School

Kickin' Kids After School Martial Arts Program

The mission of our after school program is to provide quality care for the total child in a safe, nurturing and educational environment utilizing appropriate martial arts activities to meet individual needs.

Parents benefit because after school martial arts provides a much needed service and can actually save them money. Plus, it gives parents an opportunity to enroll their child or children in more than just an ordinary after school program. Since martial arts lessons are taught in an atmosphere of courtesy and respect, parents feel confident leaving their children in our care. Children will benefit the most from this program. Since our Kickin' Kids classes will be based on positive martial arts philosophies and teachings, children in our program will receive more character development education than they would in an ordinary after school environment. Many after school programs may not focus on areas such as: goal setting, conflict resolution, positive attitude development and how to overcome obstacles. This gives our program a unique approach to after care and a true definition to quality care.

  • We believe all children are individuals and are to be treated with respect.
  • We believe children learn through play, instruction, and by asking and answering questions.
  • We believe children need opportunities to develop physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and language skills.
  • We believe children need guidelines for acceptable behavior and to know that there are consequences for unacceptable behavior.

  • We believe children should be taught the importance of having a positive attitude. This has been proven to raise self-esteem, boost grades in school and assist them in getting along with others.

Schedule

Monday - Friday       2:00p.m. - 6:00p.m.

This unique program teaches kids specific safe running patterns while teaching them to listen to their environment. The Know and Go children safety system, utilizes obstacle course focused around different turns, movement and obstacle patterns allowing the child to have confidence and assurance while they are escaping a possible abduction.
